Coronado’s final lunge for the gold

CORONADO

6/1/1541, Coronado with his 30 chosen men followed the other now more believable Cicuye (Pecos) slave to the promised land of Quivira. For this service, Coronado released the Quivira native in his home land.

The trek north to Quivira took the expedition over the gold line to the Arkansas River, around its big bend on up to as far east as somewhere between present day Lyons and Lindsborg, Kansas. Traveling north by the compass needle, this ride took approx 42 days. They spent 25 days in the area before starting back to Alcanfor.

The map line is gold for the golden hope that propelled the troops, though once again, things turned out differently.
