Hubble Space Telescope

SINE

Hubble Space Telescope, launched from the space shuttle in 1990, orbits earth 610 kilometers, or 380 miles above earth’s surface. Outside earth’s atmosphere, the images it collects are less distorted and ten times more sharp than earth-bound telescopes. It can see objects fifty times more faint, also. It is searching for planets of other stars, looking into other galaxies to calculate the age and size of the universe. Images come to us as radio waves.

It is named after an American astronomer at Mount Wilson Observatory in California. Hubble found the universe contains other galaxies besides the Milky Way. He found stars of the same kind as in the Milky Way but outside our galaxy. In the Andromeda galaxy. He also saw other galaxies moving away from us, and concluded that the universe is expanding, with galaxies farther away moving away faster than closer ones. I made a link to it.
