Listen to this about the guy Coronado left in charge in Mexico during the Expedition:

Cristobal de Onate, whose failure to receive a salary for his services as lieutenant-governor for Coronado in Nueva Galicia … [led to one of the charges against Coronado], became one of the wealthiest persons in America with the discovery in 1546 of rich mines at Zacatecas.
