Get the plastic out

AURA

Since most people don’t live within sight of the ocean or the beach, there isn’t the same level of public consciousness about unsightly trash there as there is in public parks and streets. But a holiday at the beach can reveal trash you’d rather not see. What it doesn’t reveal is the trash you can’t see that’s under water or that has disintegrated into bits so small that it’s “breathed” by fish with each “breath” they take through their gills so that it becomes part of the fish. That causes inflammation in fish and probably inflammation in people when they (and I don’t mean me), eat the fish. I’m off fish because inflammation is part of diabetes and even Alzheimer’s that’s a kind of diabetes, and I don’t need either one of ‘em. Putting plastic in the trash seems the right thing to do, but they say most of the plastic that’s been made is still with us, whether in landfills or the ocean. As it breaks down, it seems to disappear, but “seems” is the fooler. Some smarties have devised machines to gather visible bits from the ocean and some have found ways to use it for fuel. Plastic is so popular my guess is the only way it can stop piling up is for somebody to invent something to use it up. Maybe sea level rise wouldn't be such a big deal in coastal cities if they got the plastic out ? When you consider how much work and how long it's taken to screw things up, just think how little unemployment there would be if everybody got to work straightening things out.
