I looked into this sometime after we met and found the Los Angeles water utility thinks to install a pump 20 miles downstream from Hoover dam and move water back up when power demand low. I do not know why they think to use wind and solar to run the pump. Anyway, most surprising for me is Italy and Switzerland have been doing this for a long time already, but not wind and solar for the pump. But they have almost all the water they need ready all day and night. Solar, even big utilities solar, use batteries, and these do not provide as much power as a dam releases for as long as sometimes is necessary. Is a good idea, huh?
