Buffalo Bill

AURA

All I know about him is he was always angling to make money despite being drunk most of the time. If he was still around he’d probably set up shop at Grand Canyon, but at the time Kansas was where the action was, so he ran a hotel over there, later on one on the Cimarron Cutoff of the Santa Fe Trail, plus he got into land speculation, and ultimately show business, but not before making big money and a name for himself shooting all the Buffalo in the way of the Kansas Pacific Railroad. He did that to feed the construction workers, he said. Even in my little corner of Arizona he dug into the Campo Bonito copper mine that’s only seven miles northeast of Oracle. - No, maybe he’d do the Biosphere now instead of Grand Canyon.

Buffalo Bill Memorial Museum and Grave doesn’t share my opinion. Make America great again and go there if you feel like it. It’s open year-round in Golden, Colorado, at the summit of Lookout Mountain, 5 miles west off U.S. 6 out Lariat Trail. May-Oct. 9a.m.–5p.m. daily; NovApril 9a.m. – 4p.m. daily except Mondays. Closed Dec.25. 303-526-0747
